White carpet welcome ...
Like every other software engineer in India, I got my chance to work in US. I shared this message with my friends and I got a lot of one of the abundant, free items in this world - Advice. Somehow I reached Milwaukee. US received me with a white carpet (Snow). Thanks to my 'Advisors'/roommates (Soundparty, thillangadi), I got rid of jet lag in two days. Then next working day, all my roommates were very interested in taking me to the bank to open an account for me. I was totally overwhelmed by the care they showed to me. Finally it was decided that Soundparty will join me to the bank. Later in the day, at the bank, the representative told soundparty that she will credit $10 to his account for his referral. Then I knew the reason for the care everybody showed earlier in the morning and even advice pays sometimes.
After one week of work, got friendly with my team members and started apartment hunting. Sales person in that apartment office was a girl. She was beautiful and more importantly, she was single (No wedding ring, hee.. hee..). One day at the apartment office, I asked her some more information about an apartment (do I need a reason to talk to her?). she didn't have the information. I said, "Once you get the information, give me a 'ring'". For a fraction of second I saw surprise in her eyes and then with a smile, she told "Don't you think its a little early for that." Next second I realized and told her "Hee.. Hee.. I meant a telephone call". Oh boy! what a narrow escape!

at least you got somebody to accompany you! It took 4 days to find somebody (that is lucky) to take me to the blue building to submit my SSN request.
For me, its not the time to get into all the 'trouble'. Yesterday I watched 'How to lose a guy in 10 days' movie in CBS. If you see that movie, you will know what I am talking about (Krull, love fern, celine dion concert ...) :-)
